Variations on a theme.
I’ve collected some of my favorite library logos. I’m partial to StL, of course, but I lived in Fayetteville, Arkansas for a while and always thought their exclamation point logo was pretty clever. The green one is Salt Lake City Public Library. It’s amazing how many different ways you can throw a book into a logo and it still turn out fresh.

I haven’t seen these poetry magnets in quite some time. I came across a wall of them in the teen section of the Central Library, KC. I thought this was worthy of a photograph.

Four literary themed trucks are part of a new ad campaign for the Johnson County Library. Officials hope the trucks will spark interest and bring even more readers to their doors.
Ha, bullshit. More like, Officials hoped a blogger walked by and took a picture of them with their iphone and shit got reblogged 100x on Tumblr.
WHO AM I TO STAND IN THE WAY OF A PUBLIC LIBRARY WASTING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON AIRBRUSHING THAT COULD OTHERWISE BE USED TO BUY, OH, I DON’T KNOW, BOOKS.
“Barkley Advertising Agency, a locally based business, offered its service — valued at $33,000 — free of charge. Company vice-president Tom Demetriou offered the pro bono work because he wanted to remind people of the sanctuary found at libraries, where the community is intrinsically bound by stories.”
that’s MY Snotty, uppity, middle of nowhere , Johnson county!! wooop woop! (no seriously, I love this, and I’m better than you bc I’m from Johnson County..also if you don’t live in KS, you don’t get this stereotype and probably don’t care)
Funny… Barkley also laid off a bunch of people last week (including a friend of mine). Maybe they should ease off the pro bono work.

This is a great campaign. Agencies do pro bono work when they’re bored and they don’t have work from real clients, all in hopes that they get new clients from their awesome thinking. Then the lay-offs come. Then they get new clients a year later and hire the cool/cheap kids right out of college.
Also, I don’t live in Kansas and don’t get the border war thing, but whatever. MIZ!?
